Halloween was a real adventure this year. Living in a college town Halloween has always seemed more of a "party/costume contest/really big bonfire" holiday. I'd totally forgotten all the tricks of the trick-or-treating trade (like remembering a super sized sack for candy) and didn't find out about the kid-friendly Halloween events taking place around town until a few hours to late. Ah well! Laia looked cute and cuddly in two out of her three outfits, our pumpkins didn't catch fire (though the scent of burning squash still haunts our front room), and we've still got candy to spare!
About those three outfits...well, Laia was given a too-cute-for-words unicorn costume by one of my co-workers. Then one of Laia's grandmothers (the lucky child has three grannies to spoil her!) gave her an adorable little jacket that transformed her into the White Rabbit. And finally, my own knitting skills and love of the TV series FireFly (and the film Serenity) resulted in a cunning "Jayne Hat" and the baby Jayne costume was born!
Last year at Halloween Laia was a tiny little belly bulge known as "pun'kin". Next year she'll probably be a ghost in a sheet and I'll have to fight her for her hard earned candy. But for now I'll enjoy the pictures of the crazy unicorn, magical white rabbit, and cunnin' hat toting Laia-Belly.
Mmmmm....zesty!
Halloween morning, Laia grabbed a lemon Mike was using for zest and popped it into her mouth.
With Bubkha on hand to watch, Laia spent a good ten minutes exploring the world of lemon.![]()

Having decided to stick with candy-acquisition (all candy to be turned over to her parental-units of course), Laia got all dressed up in her Unicorn outfit. What began with an innocent "let's take her picture with the pumpkins" quickly turned into a baby-inspired game of "throw the pumpkins down the stairs". Long live squash the squash!
If you can't throw it down the stairs, why not take a little nibble? After all, unicorns love squash and pomegranates!
No one doubts the power of cute...but WHY does she have to be so ridiculously adorable?
It must be the Halloween magic in the air...After her unicorned photo-op and a quick turn round the neighborhood, Laia switched (all Alice in Wonderland-y like) into her White Rabbit persona. We dashed off to the mall for a little corporate candy, then came home to carve pumpkins and make a happy mess.

Even otherwise innocent little stuffed animals got caught up in the spirit of pumpkin destruction. Pooh bear helped carve Laia's name in lights...well, in squash, anyway. You can see the fruits of his labor at the top of this page. ![]()
And what would Halloween be without a ghost or two?

And even babes in arms love the Jayne Hat!
A babe toddles down the street in a hat like that...well, you know the rest! More baby Jaybe photos on the way, but till then, ain't that a cunnin' hat?
Soooo...Halloween has come and gone, but the pictures are here forever! I've got more photos waiting on the camera and they'll be added as time and baby allows. Till then, spook on!
