So, the adventure that is Rowan Sophia Chiment Scimeca begins! Welcome to the planet little one...hope you have a wonderful ride!
Rowan arrived on June 8th at 12:36 in the afternoon after 12 hours of labor. She weighed in at 9lbs even and is something like 21 inches long. I had my amazing drug free VBAC due to the amazing support and dedication of lots of people. Mike was (and is) amazing of course! And I am very much in love with my care providers (Dr Heidi Rinehart and Dr Rudy Fedrizzi) and my doula (Sharon Berger). Not to mention the staff at Cayuga Medical. If you ever find yourself in need of birth attendants, give them a call!
Starting life as a drama queen though, Rowan entered the world with an impacted head (caught behind my pubic bone...she still has a little "head crest/speed bump" as a result), followed by shoulder dystocia (her shoulders got caught after her head came out meaning no oxygen for Rowan), followed by a 4th degree tear for mama (go ahead, google it...I don' want to think about it). OUCH! It was an intense few minutes but Rowan recovered wonderfully with some oxygen and massage (no nerve damage or broken bones, and she started breathing on her own very quickly) and thanks to my wonderful OBs and 40-some-minutes of suturing I've been told I'll be fine. In time, anyway!
But you probably don't care much about the narrative bits here, right? You want to see cute little babies with chubby little legs and kissable noses and...well...all that baby stuff. Okay. We can do that! But let's work up to it, shall we?

Mine is a belly of the alluring, amusing, and exotic school. I can do you alluring and amusing without the exotic, and I can do you exotic and alluring without the amusing, and I can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But Belly is compulsory. They're all belly, you see.

When Laia was born, Mike read her Reaper Man while mama napped...Rowan's reading adventures began with Lords & Ladies. Both Pratchett of course, but then, what else would a newborn want to hear?
More photos on the way...we used "real" film cameras at the hospital so we have to wait for them to be developed...but till then, the adventure continues!
